Philosophy

At Kenton’s Lesson Studio, every student’s musical journey is unique. Lessons are always tailored to individual goals. I welcome students of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities, and I am committed to creating an inclusive, respectful space where everyone feels safe, heard, and supported. Whether you want to strengthen technical skills, prepare for auditions, explore jazz improvisation, write original music, or simply enjoy making sound, I will meet you where you are and help you grow from there.

I teach piano, saxophone, flute, and voice, as well as conducting, arranging, and composition. I bring my own experience as a performer, composer, and educator into each lesson, offering guidance not only on learning and performing music, but on navigating a life that includes it. My role is not just to teach, but to guide and support each student through both the practical and personal sides of musical growth.

I embrace modern tools to make learning as accessible and effective as possible. Students are welcome to share recordings or ask questions digitally between lessons, and I sometimes record short videos during lessons so students can take them home for practice. As my professor of Jazz Composition, Greg Hopkins (Berklee College of Music), taught me: “Everything you do is ear training.” Every musical action helps develop a student’s ear, sound, and unique voice. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to learning music — each choice a student makes can become a meaningful step forward.

Music lessons aren’t only for future professionals. Hobbyists, explorers, and anyone seeking a creative and rewarding outlet are welcome here. Practicing music should feel both challenging and enjoyable, creating a peaceful space where curiosity and authentic expression can thrive. With consistency and care, progress is inevitable.

The name Kenton’s Lesson Studio reflects the heart of what I offer: a personal, dedicated space for learning and making music. More than just lessons, this is a place to discover your voice, build confidence, and make music a meaningful part of your life.
