Flute Lessons

Kenton offers flute lessons for students ages 8 and up, in Nanaimo B.C. or online. Lessons focus on building strong technique, tone, musicality, and ear training. Whether you’re picking up the flute for the first time, joining high school band, or learning to improvise over any chord progression, Kenton will help you grow as a confident, expressive player.

Studio Environment

Lessons take place in a comfortable, welcoming studio space. The atmosphere is relaxed and encouraging, helping students feel confident as they develop their musicianship. Online students receive clear camera angles, shared lesson notes, and digital resources to support effective learning from home.

What You’ll Learn:

Students receive a balanced, comprehensive musical foundation, with an approach that adapts to individual interests. Lessons may include:

Technique & Musicianship

  • Posture, tone production, breathing

  • Ear training

  • Rhythm reading

  • Melody, phrasing, and embellishments

Repertoire & Creativity

  • Styles you enjoy (for example: Jazz, pop, classical, contemporary, traditional, etc.)

  • Improvisation

  • Composition

  • Chords & harmony

Lesson Structure & Format

Lessons are designed to be flexible, accessible, and enjoyable.

  • Lesson lengths: 30 minutes ($40), 45 minutes ($60) or 60 minutes ($75)

  • In-person lessons in Nanaimo

  • Online lessons available for students outside the area (via Google Meet — no membership required)

  • Frequency: Weekly recommended; biweekly scheduling may be accommodated on a limited basis

  • Teaching approach: Supportive, goal-based, and adaptable to each student’s learning style

  • Materials: Method books, repertoire collections, creative exercises focused on technique and essential improvisation skills
